Във френския национален тим и Френската футболна федерация
Улие е начело на селекцията в синьо през 1992 и 1993. По това време „петлите“ са много далеч от настоящия си статут и тепърва търсят пробива си сред водещите футболни нации. Впрочем, в момента на назначаването си като национален селекционер Улие вече отлично познава обстановката в лагера на „Les Bleus“, тъй като в предходните 4 години е помощник-треньор на Мишел Платини.
